Similar to the newspaper itself, a core priority in designing About Time’s website was making the finished product feel approachable and not as intimidating as traditional newspapers or media platforms.
Playful charcoal illustrations are woven throughout, also featuring inserts prompting users to support the paper by donating, subscribing, pitching ideas and more.
A personal favourite feature is a customisable accessibility menu for all published articles (allowing the reader to adjust aspects like font size, line height and change to a font that’s easier for people with dyslexia to read).
The website has successfully connected with people outside Australian prisons (with either lived experience or friends/family who are or have been incarcerated) and has been integral in raising awareness and support for the newspaper itself.
